Tinsel Festivities

Report on the Tinsel Tournament

There was a fine display of Santa hats and other Christmas headgear on display at the Club on Thursday 10th December for the Tinsel Tennis Tournament. Pride of place must go to John Davies who took to the courts wearing a top hat and a snow man outfit which didn’t seem to impede him too much. Nearly 30 members played in an informal tournament, made even more informal by more players turning up than expected causing the original format to be modified. Event organiser Lindsay Newton did a great job of getting everyone on to court as rapidly as possible, which also means getting matches played as quickly as possible. This included the original one-point tiebreak at 2-2! Mulled wine was available to keep players warm while they waited to go on court.

After the tennis some more members and friends enjoyed a very convivial evening in the club house with sausage rolls, mince pies and more mulled wine. Music was supplied by the Bog Trotters, otherwise known as John Newton and Dave MacAdam, who treated to us to an eclectic mix which included Beatles, Eric Clapton and Eagles songs.

Thanks to Lindsay Newton and Jane Tyler for organising a brilliant event to get us into the Christmas mood.
